Malachi
My Messenger
Malachi 1:2-3 I have loved you, saith Yahuweh. Yet ye say, Wherein hast Thou loved us? Was not E'sau Jacob's brother? Saith Yahuweh: Yet I loved Jacob, 3 And I hated E'sau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness.
God's love is proved first that He chose Israel and continues to preserve them but Yahuweh's indignation (anger )is against Edom forever.
Malachi 1:6 A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is Mine honour? And if I be a master, where is My fear? Saith Yahuweh of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise My name. And ye say, Wherein have we despised Thy name?
As Israel fails to honor and reverence Yahuweh for who He is so also the church is guilty of that same lack of reverence deserving of His name. Deuteronomy 32:6; Psalm 100:3; Isaiah 63:16; Jeremiah 31:9; Revelation 2:1-3:6
Verse 10 says that unless they were paid they wouldn't do the work and did it not in faith.
Malachi 1:11 For from the rising of the sun until the going down of the same My name shall be great among the Gen'tiles (nations); and in every place incense shall be offered unto My name, and a pure offering: for My name shall be great among the heathen, saith Yahuweh of hosts.
This is not even for this day but for the millennial kingdom.
Malachi 1:14 But cursed be the deceiver, which hath in his flock a male, and voweth, and sacrificeth unto Yahuweh who Saves a corrupt thing: for I am a great King, saith Yahuweh of hosts, and My name is dreadful among the heathen.
Their offering was contemptible to God but like Ananias and Sapphira cursed unto death.
Malachi 2:5-7 My covenant was with him of life and peace; and I gave them to him for the fear wherewith he feared Me, and was afraid before My name. 6 The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found in his lips: he walked with Me in peace and equity, and did turn many away from iniquity. 7 For the priest's lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth: for he is the messenger of Yahuweh of hosts.
The purpose of priesthood is to turn people from iniquity and judge the law uprightly!
The following is a comment from a Jewish scholar Malbim: “When the word Jacob is used, this describes the masses. However Israel, denotes the elite, the aristocracy, the scholars and saints who guide the masses. The great men, Israel, never ceased to trust in the future redemption. To them it was a definite reality, a tangible fact of life. When the redemption occurs, it will not at all take them by surprise, for they have been waiting. Not so Jacob, the unlearned masses who lacked this clear faith. The redemption will burst upon them like a sudden thunderbolt and they will be overwhelmed with ecstasy and elation. However, Israel will take it all in stride and continue with their constant serene state of gladness and joy.” Commentary on Psalm 14:7
